ČD Cargo has enjoyed great success in Austria.

News

Thanks to its strong performance, it has climbed to second place, right behind the “national” carrier, Rail Cargo Austria.

The ČD Cargo branch in Austria (ČD Cargo Niederlassung Wien) began operations in January 2019.

On the evening of January 20, 2019, a complete train loaded with precast concrete elements was the first to depart from the Czech Republic at the Horní Dvořiště border crossing station, heading for Villach via Linz and Selzthal. The train was headed by a pair of ČD Cargo Vectron locomotives, numbers 383.007 and 001; once on Austrian territory, the train was operated under a ČD Cargo license by a ČD Cargo locomotive engineer.

After seven years of operation, ČD Cargo has become the second-largest carrier in Austria, behind Rail Cargo Austria! Among other private carriers, it holds a market share of 6.76%. Last year, we transported over 3 million metric tons of goods on Austrian railways. We are proud to showcase our track record in transporting containers, lumber, automobiles, construction materials, and other goods.

We would like to thank our Austrian colleagues for their achievements, and we wish them continued success and many more accident-free kilometers.
